The new Kindle Wi-Fi is a budget electronic reader with basic features. The device has the Nook Touch, Sony Reader and Kobo Touch as its main competitors. It comes at a low price point of $79 with Special Offers.

On-screen Keyboard
The Kindle 2011 has an on-screen keyboard, which you activate using a special key. Page turn is made possible by a 5-Way Controller button below the screen.

6″ Display
The electronic reader is 166 mm x 114 mm x 8.7 mm in size and has an E Ink Pearl display that is also found on the other Kindle models. This type of screen is preferred because it reads like real paper in direct sunlight. It is also used on the Nook Touch, Sony Reader and Kobo Touch eReaders.

Weight
The Kindle Wi-Fi weighs 170 grams making it portable to carry to the office, school or on a trip. It is the lightest when compared to the Nook Touch, Sony Reader and Kobo Touch electronic readers with the Kobo Touch being the heaviest weighing 221 grams.

Free Build-in Wi-Fi
The device gives you coverage using Wi-Fi technology. You can connect to hotspots to search and download Kindle content. The downside of a Wi-Fi eReader as opposed to a 3G electronic reader is that you have to find a hotspot near you or invest in a router if you would like to use wireless at home. However, with telecommunications companies such as AT&T expanding their hotspots network. It is becoming increasingly easier to find a hotspot near you in libraries, restaurants, hotels, universities and so on.

Book Storage
The eReader has 2GB internal memory that can hold up to 1,400 books. The storage capacity cannot be increased so if you would like to store more books a good option would be to use the Cloud Storage and store your books online.

Audio not Supported
If you are a music lover, be prepared to use your Kindle device without listening to music as audio is not supported. The device has some build-in games for entertainment.

Public Library Borrowing of Books
With the Kindle Wi-Fi, you can borrow books from public libraries on your device. This is a feature that has been recently introduced on the Kindle and it is a good addition to the Google and Wikipedia searches that you can perform on the device for reference purposes.

Books and Magazines
The electronic reader offers you plenty of ebooks from the Kindle Store most of which are priced at $9.99 or less. There are thousands of free out-of-copyright books to download and your magazines and newspapers subscriptions are delivered wirelessly on the device.
